The spring that is…#Day51 #300DaysofSurfing

Australia is officially in Spring, and the swell has apparently been very ‘unspringlike’

I don't have a historical reference to prove but the forecast site Surfline says “an easterly at this time of the year is unlikely especially with a westerly airflow” however both happened to merge in perfect conditions.

Today — 05th October was officially the end of the swell run. The sea went back to almost tiny condition with almost a lake-like tranquility. Winds were averaging at 20 knots by afternoon and the water was pristine blue and the only solace from the sweltering heat.

I took some time off work so spent most of my time outdoors, surfing, exploring. It’s insane how at a stone’s throw you can reach a completely hidden and isolated beach near Sydney.

Taking a long winding road down leads you to Bungan beach. Nestled between the headlands, the beach is almost like staring into a postcard. Picturesque, the pacific in the background with the leftover easterly swell crashing on the hollow sandbanks.

The waves looked amazing but perilous due to the hollow crashing on shallow sandbanks. The white water almost looked and felt like it detonated behind me.

It was still good to be outside and soak some sun, plug off from work, hang my boots and go exploring and chasing waves on beaches I have never set foot on. I think it’s not really cliched when they say ‘it’s all in the chase and the search’!

surfing, exploring, and everything in between…

Signing off from a perfect (well almost) spring day…! Day 51 comes to a wrap.

Why am I doing this?

No particular reason. I just hope that this journey encourages you to step out of your comfort zone and do something that enriches your journey and makes the most of the situation during this pandemic!

I will also be contributing to a cause at the end of this journey (for every day of surf I will be giving away $10 to a cause — details are to follow as I shortlist organizations creating positive impact via sport).

Money raised so far:

Day 51: $10 total

05 October: $10

Total : $540 (to date)
