Simple Disciplines — Day 10 #300DaysOfSurf

As I write today’s post Sydney lockdown has been extended by another 2 weeks, making it a total of 2 weeks since we have already been ‘locked down.

While some parts of the world, limp back to normalcy OZ seems to be taking many steps back marred by many issues — lack of sufficient vaccines, mangled communication, inefficient lockdown strategies, not enough purpose-built quarantines, and just complete apathy towards the state and well being of people. Let’s set this aside for another post.

While this happened, Sydney was pumping. I had to take this whole week a bit slow due to work commitments but I did manage to sneak out for a surf while the east swell was still pumping on Tuesday (13 July) and after a long break today on 17 July!

I read somewhere that ‘success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day’ — Jim Rohn

I have been lagging, finding it hard to find the motivation in times like these.

However I feel every time I drag myself out of my bed to be in the ocean away from the comforts, I get a little better. Every paddle, every wave, there must be something within me getting better. It might not feel in the moment but maybe looking back this would make me feel — the journey was worth it. The important thing is the effort, putting the time in, and just trying — repeatedly.

Day 10 wrapped up with not much to surf — it was almost flat — I contended of thinking of the session as a long nice swim. There was a strong gale warning with 14 knots of wind from the west which is always chilly. It's still always nice to be back in the grasp of the ocean. The ocean heals, I felt better already. After a week of having ups and downs with the way I felt physically — I was immediately rejuvenated after the waves washed me and engulfed me for split seconds making me a part of them.

It’s always great to manifest the energy of the waves and feel as if they run through you — a healing force of nature.

I don’t know how long the lockdown will extend and I cannot clearly see an end to this ordeal. However, it's interesting that the beginning of the lockdown set forth the motion of events culminating in this blog about the journey.

I feel proud of hitting a critical milestone of 10 days of surf. I am sure it won’t be an easy journey to maintain the momentum but I am excited to see where this lands…stay tuned.

Join my journey as I chase #300DaysOfSurf, share my story, learnings, experiences, and thoughts.

Why am I doing this?

No particular reason. I just hope that this journey encourages you to step out of your comfort zone and do something that enriches your journey and makes the most of the situation during this pandemic!

I will also be contributing to a cause at the end of this journey (for every day of surf I will be giving away $10 to a cause — details are to follow as I shortlist organizations creating positive impact via sport).

Money raised so far:

Day 9and 10: 13 July 2021 and 17 July 2021 — $20
Total (to date): $100
